How does it work?

Just follow these simple steps

1. Set up a unique and honest profile- your profile serves the same purpose as a resume. The same way a standard CV is necessary for getting a job is the same way a good profile is good for finding work with upwork.

Fill out the type of job you will like to do and your level of expertise. You have to be very honest here, if you get jobs that you can’t deliver on, your account might be blocked.

Next is to add a detailed description about yourself. You can include link to works you have done in the past.

You will be provided with a host of other instructions, just follow them carefully and fill it in correctly.

2. Choose a membership plan In upwork there are two membership plan, which are Basic and Plus.

Basic

This plan is free, but for you to connect to clients you have to pay. Getting a client on the basic plan costs $0.15 for each connection you get. This is the platform internal token used in submitting proposal to the clients. You are free to make 140 connect each month.

In a situation where someone reached out to you, you don’t need to pay for connects.

The more robust your profile looks, the more you are able to attract potential customers. Since you are new, go for volunteer experience.

Plus

This plan is $14.99 per month and includes everything in a basic plan as well as other interesting offers like70 connects per month, visibility into what price competitors have bid for a job etc.

3. Connect with legitimate employers. Use your connect to submit proposals for  Jobs in your wheelhouse. This proposal should include an introductory letter, your desired fee and answers to questions the client included in the posting. Before applying for a gig,  get an idea of the potential clients reputation and see if you can work with him or her.

Once you are able to land the gig, ensure you give in your best because good reviews increase your chances of getting more gigs.

4. Set your price and start working. Follow the upwork site and get the full detail on how upwork carries out their payment.
